Dr. Paul Owusu Donkor is a distinguished pharmaceutical professional and academic leader whose career seamlessly bridges the gap between scientific research, professional advocacy, and practical institutional governance. Currently serving as the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), Dr. Owusu Donkor leads the nation’s pharmacists with a vision rooted in excellence and professional growth. He previously served as Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine at the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy, where he is a Senior Lecturer and leading researcher.

His path to pharmacy was a pivot from a childhood dream of law, guided by a passion for science and the encouragement of his parents. A proud alumnus of Opoku Ware School, he earned his pharmacy degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) before pursuing a PhD in Tianjin, China. His professional journey is marked by a diverse range of experiences, including serving as a Research Scientist and Medical Representative at LaGray Chemical Company, and later playing a pivotal role alongside Prof. T.C. Fleischer in establishing the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) School of Pharmacy.

Beyond the lecture hall and professional advocacy, Dr. Owusu Donkor is a stalwart of the credit union movement. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors, GCPCUL and National Board Treasurer of Credit Union Associations (CUA-Ghana), roles that represent a full-circle evolution from his early days as a member of the Supervisory Committee for the Students Savings Club at KNUST. He is a firm believer in financial discipline, advocating for the “tree planting” approach to savings and urging young professionals to build credit ratings early to secure future capital investments.

In his current leadership roles, Dr. Owusu Donkor pushes for the digitalization of financial operations and a renewed focus on the student membership pipeline. He remains a vocal advocate for evolving pharmacy education in Ghana, championing a holistic approach that moves beyond hospital practice to strengthen the sectors of manufacturing, marketing, and regulation. Driven by a desire for excellence and the grace of God, he finds his greatest reward in the “thrill” of student discovery and the long-term success of his mentees.
