Brief Profile of The President Of The College

 Pharm. Joseph Kodjo Nsiah Nyoagbe holds B. Pharm (Hons) Degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 1986; a Master of Science (MSc.) Degree in Pharmaceutical Services and Medicines Control (Specialising in Drug Regulation and Control) at Bradford University, Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. (1994); Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) (2004). He also holds  certificates in Senior Management Development from GIMPA and several other executive management programmes in leadership, strategic thinking and management.

 Pharm. Nyoagbe, who is the immediate past Registrar of the Pharmacy Council,  is also a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, a foundation fellow of Ghana College of Pharmacists; a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (FPCPharm); Immediate Past Chairman of the West African Drugs Advisory Committee of West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP). He is the current President and Chairman of the Academic Board of Ghana College of Pharmacists.  He also served on or chaired a number of Committees of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. His other contributions were his contributions as a board member for Pharmacy Council, Foods and Drugs Authority, Narcotic Control Board (now Narcotic Control Commission) and Ghana College of Pharmacists at different times of his public service career.

Pharm. Nyoagbe has during his career undertaken research and studies into various aspects of pharmacy practice, medicines regulation, pharmaceutical inspections and development of pharmacy and medicines standards and Pharmacy Education and Training.

During his regulatory career he facilitated the development of numerous policies in the area of pharmacy education such as curriculum development and introduction of Doctor of Pharmacy Programme in Ghana, guidelines on continuing professional development (CPD), practice standards, enforcement and inspection policies, pharmacists’ supervision, access to pharmaceutical services initiatives, harmonization of practice standards across ECOWAS region among many others. He has also consulted for The Gambia which has resulted in promulgation of two legislations mainly for medicines control and pharmacy practice regulation.

He regularly provides expert advice and opinions on medicines control, pharmacy practice and regulations, pharmaceutical education to many countries and organizations.

Pharmacist Nyoagbe also worked with the Ghana College of Pharmacists on secondment prior to retirement as the Technical Advisor where he assisted in developing policies, operational guidelines and strategic leadership for the College.

Among his publications and papers presented include the following: The Challenges of Drug Regulation and Control from the Ghanaian Perspective (1994), Need Assessment for Continuing Education and Continuing Professional Development (CE/CPD) for Pharmacists in Ghana (2004) and The Role of National Government and Development Partners in Accessing Medicines (Banjul, 2007). He also co-authored a number of papers including GPS Tracking: a Novel Prospect for Inspections and Monitoring of Pharmacies and Licensed Chemical Sellers (2005), Identifying the Training Needs of Auxiliary Pharmaceutical Service Providers-The case of the Licensed Chemical sellers (2005). He also co-authored:- Pharmacy Premises Licensing Policy Formulation: Experience from Ghana (Springer) February 2021, Health Research Policy and Systems 19(1). Pharm Nyoagbe also wrote the forewords for the book Understanding Drugs Markets: An Analysis of Medicines, Regulations and Pharmaceutical Systems in the Global South, Edited By Carine Baxerres, Maurice Cassier.

Currently Pharm Nyoagbe is a part-time lecturer in Leadership, Management and Pharmacy Jurisprudence at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho in the Volta Region. He is also a Lecturer and Examiner for the Ghana College of Pharmacists and West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists.

Pharm Nyoagbe is a Catholic, married to Evelyn and they are blessed with three children.
